Abstract

Poetry played an essential role in the cultural and social relations of the Jahili society during the Jahili period. Poetry, which was only available to the ignorant values before the prophetic era, was taken into consideration with the advent of Islam as a tool to advance divine goals and on the way to human spiritual excellence. Therefore, examining the place of poetry in the Prophetic era and the Prophet's encounter with Jahili poetry is a subject that can be dedicated to an independent research. This research has investigated this issue using the library method and descriptive-analytical approach. The findings of this research indicate that the reformist approach of the Messenger of God to poetry caused Jahili poetry, with its condemned characteristics, to become a despised poetry and serve Islamic values. This issue was the result of the Prophet's direction to poets to write poetry that is acceptable to Islam by explaining the position of good poetry, the Prophet's use of acceptable and sublime poems in order to promote Islamic knowledge and also confirm and strengthen the social position of Islamic poets. Of course, in some cases, there are stances against poetry by the Prophet, the reason for which should be sought in the extreme tendency towards poetry and the weakening of Muslims and Islamic values by poets and in some poems.
