Abstract
The Niqābat institution was established in the ninth century, during the Abbasid Caliphate (750-1258), to handle the affairs of the Sādāt in the Islamic society. This institution has been one of the fundamental pillars in supporting the Alawi Sādāts and Shiite communities in various places. In the Jazeera region, as a geographical area in northern Irāq, which was one of the important border areas of the Islamic Caliphate with the Byzantine Empire, Shiite communities have lived alternately in historical periods and in its various cities and regions. In addition to the rule of several Shiite governments in this region, centers of immigrant Alawis were also formed. Handling the affairs of the Shiite Sādāts of the Jazeera was carried out through the Niqābat organization and the Naqib Alawi family. The aim of this research is to investigate the Naqib Alawi families and their niqābat functions in the Jazeera in serving the Sādāts and Shiite Imamiyyah groups, using a library method and a descriptive-analytical approach. The research findings show that the Niqābat al-Tālebiyyin in the Jazeera worked to protect the Sādāts (Tālebiyyin) in terms of lineage, to preserve their dignity and status in society, to handle the Sādāts' affairs and to supervise them. The presence of Alawis and Shiites in the Jazeera has caused the scope of this institution's activities to that region, and some Alawi families have held the position of Niqābat.
