Abstract

With the beginning of the absence of the twelfth Imam, new problems arose for the Shiites that had no precedent before. Due to the suffocation prevailing at that time, the Imamiyyah had suffered a lot of confusion and doubts. In this period, the advocacy institution increased its activity due to the geographical spread of the presence of Shiites. In this situation, the lawyers took measures to maintain the unity of the Shiites. The brokers played an essential role in maintaining the relationship between the Imam and the Shiites by organizing the activities of the agency. This research, using historical-narrative sources, seeks to answer the question, "What actions have the four lawyers taken in order to strengthen Shiite identity and Shiite unity against the political, social and religious challenges of that era?". The findings of this research show that Arbaah lawyers were able to preserve the Shiite identity against internal and external threats by performing practical and executive activities such as managing Islamic funds, promoting religious and jurisprudential teachings, maintaining secret communication networks, emphasizing taqiyyah, and interacting with scientific elites. and prevent the collapse of the Shiite society during the period of minor absence. These measures not only strengthened Shiism in that era, but also provided solid foundations for the continuation of the Shiite school during the Great Absence.
