Safavid is known as a religious movement which established the Shi'ism as the official religion in Iran. A group of the Shia intellectuals immigrated to Iran in Safavid period, and Shi'a jurisprudents gradually found strength and social status. Yet another Safavid aspect is the history of their mysticism, which played a significant role in their movement and later in the state. Considering the inherent contradiction between the jurisprudential flow of Shiism and the primitive Islam of Safavid Sufi followers, the status of official Shiite culture and jurisprudence in the Safavid period is questioned. This article seeks to answer where was the position of the Shi'i jurisprudents in the interaction with the state? And what was the influence of them on the social sphere, especially for promotion and implementation of Islamic law? To answer these questions, the religious background of the Safavid dynasty and its Legitimate sources investigated. The support of the Shi'i jurisprudents was only one basis for the legitimacy of the Safavid government, while Safavid had some other basis of legitimacy. Although it seems that some Safavid kings paid a special attention to Shiite jurisprudents, and several official positions were assigned to them, but in practice the real power and social influence of the Shah was not comparable to any other officials. Therefore, the desire of the Shah, dominated the country's destinies. However, in the late Safavid period, the consolidation of a powerful religious institution and the formation of the MullaBashi position, increased the authority of the jurists.
