Fighting and winning the war was one of the foundations of the ways to gain truth, honor and also the formation of the government until the beginning of the modern era. For this reason, throughout the history of Iran, no dynasty has been formed without war, and no dynasty has been free of war. As the longest dynasty during Islamic period, the Safavids were involved in frequent wars from the era of Sheikh Jonayd to the Zahāb peace treaty (1049A. H). Therefore, the combativeness motivations of the Safavid kings from the beginning of this period to the conclusion of the Zahāb treaty with the Ottomans is the main research issue. By studying the war history of the Safavid kings, the upcoming research set out to answer the question: What motives did the Safavid sheikhs and kings turn to war and ghāzigari (fighting for the faith)? The data of the investigation has been discussed with an analytical method and survey the historical sources of Safavid era and itinerary of the European travellers. The war style of the Safavid kings showed that they embarked war in order to make themselves proud, to display their individual power, to gain prestige and legitimacy. The combativeness of the kings of the Safavid era put the army and the country in a state of defense readiness. This situation made possible the confrontation between the Safavids and the Uzbeks and the Ottomans.
