Abstract:
An analysis of historiography of Prophet Mohammad (A.S)’s wars in the research books of Islamic History (from 1357 to 1397)
After the Islamic revolution in 1357, an attempt was made to integrate new concepts with the incidents of the early Islamic history, which led to researches about Islamic history both in Iranian universities and the religious seminaries. Therefore, history of Islam was established as a general course in the curriculum of Iranian universities and researches were conducted on it. Wars, fights and battles of the prophet became centers of attention especially during the imposed war between Iran and Iraq. Researchers juxtaposed Iran’s war with the prophet’s wars and passed their different opinions and analyses. The present study attempts to reflect how the prophet’s wars have been treated in the books of history published in the past four decades in Iran.
The findings of this study which uses descriptive- analytical approach indicate that these history writers have mostly employed descriptive analysis and traditional- theological approach to discuss the Prophet’s wars and battles. These writers used Qur’anic exegeses, descriptions, explanations, comparisons and an amalgamation of these methods based on religious and comparative approaches to deal with the prophet’s wars. They hardly employed logical and critical historiographical approaches in their writings.
