Delhi the most significant city of northern India was founded by Rajeh Prithvi and it is considered as the most ancient cities among the other seven cities famous for this name. Due to the particular geographical situation of this city, there governed various dynasties the most important of them were Delhi sultans famous for "Shamsian" the first Islamic dynasty before Mongol's sovereignty over this land. Shams al-Din Altatmash is considered as the first king of this dynasty and the main designer of Delhi's sovereignty and due to his importance and position as the first independent Muslim commander of Delhi, this article investigates the way of Altatmash's gaining power, the most important events of his sovereignty as well as his strategies in the strengthening of power.
