Falsifying and distorting the traditions of Mahdism or applying them to false claimants, with the aim of abusing its enormous political and social capacity, is one of the harms of saviorist traditions. This issue started from the first century of Hijri, especially after the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS) by some opportunists, which was parallel to the bloodthirsty uprisings of the followers of Ahl al-Bayt (pbuh). Examining the historical sources of that period of time and the existence of some common concepts in the historical narrations of Ibn Zubair's uprising and the Sunni messianic narratives strengthens a possibility. That because Bani Hashim did not accompany Ibn Zubair and news were published at the same time, according to which Mukhtar Thaqafi called Muhammad Ibn Hanafiyah, who was Ibn Zubair's long-time rival, the Mahdi. It has provoked the Zubirians to be among these opportunists in order to gain public support in confronting the Syrian Army. This article examines this issue with the method of historical analysis.
