Abstract

Al-Rad al Al-Rafiḍah is an ancient and lesser-known treatise by Muhammad ibn Ali al- Tirmiḏi; He is named after Ḥakim Tirmiḏi and his main fame is the "Theory of the End of the Wilayat". The various works of Ḥakim include extensive discussions in theoretical mysticism and the strengthening of the current of asceticism and Sufism, but in the above treatise, like he appeared as a critical theologian and rejected the Shiite denomination. Al-Rad al Al-Rafiḍah, although it has a long history and was written from the perspective of a mystic, has been not attended in scientific circles due to insufficient reproduction in the Middle and Late Centuries. In the remaining pages of the manuscript copy of this treatise, the issue of the succession of the Prophet (PBUH) is the focus of discussion. The present article has tried to refer briefly to the textual context, dominant discourse and time and place of author’s life in an analytical way. The result is that the intellectual affiliation with the Ahle Ḥadith, distancing themselves from a sect that is very similar to its mystical perspective, and the establishment of regional governments in Iran, especially the Samanid religious integration policy and mystical presuppositions, have been effective in the author's tendency.
